Nicaraguan Garment Workers Fund

There are a number of ways to support the Nueva Vida Cooperative in the fight against sweatshops

1. DONATIONS

We rely on the donations of generous people like you to help provide appropriate technology for garment production and training courses to ensure the health and safety of workers. The machinery needed for high-quality manufacturing is not prohibitively expensive, especially if this investment is shared among friends and supporters from North America and Europe. We appreciate all financial donations of any amount – large or small. The staff of the NGWF takes neither salary nor commission, and 100% of profits are returned to the Cooperative.

2. SKILLS

Both the NGWF and the Nueva Vida Cooperative rely on the skills and help of experts (ie, Craig Zheng, our web designer, and Emily Richard, our graphic design consultant). We are currently also seeking contacts with specialists in the following areas:

*International trade and customs law, with specific knowledge of the DR-CAFTA
*Grant writing
*Fair trade certification
*Cooperative Banking
*Industrial Engineering/Manufacturing

Please contact us for more information.

3. CALLING ALL DESIGNERS

Are you interested in creating your own line of printed T-shirts? From Barney’s New York to H&M, major retailers are looking for organic garments. And companies like American Apparel have had amazing success marketing “sweatshop-free” clothing. The Nueva Vida Cooperative is looking to work with creative people who want to maintain artistic integrity while also supporting the elimination of poverty and the protection of the environment. Contact the NGWF now!

4. NETWORKING

Spread the word! We hope that your interest in this project will motivate you to spread the word to your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and even strangers. Some ideas:

*Buy Comamnuvi products for you, your club, school, parish, or community group!
*Add us to your MySpace or Facebook page
*Write a story about the Nueva Vida Cooperative for your blog, zine or local newspaper
*Organize an event such as a bake sale, concert, or speaker series and give a portion of the proceeds to the NGWF Machine & Training Fund
*Invite NGWF to speak at your next meeting in the Washington, DC, Boston, and New York City area (or elsewhere with special arrangements)
